Walk to town cottage with king beds
Bryson City, NC, United States
Most Bryson City rentals are a 20-minute drive from town. This one is a 5-minute walk. A historic cottage with two king bedrooms, a full kitchen, and a private backyard, set on a quiet street just blocks from downtown restaurants, breweries, shops, and the Tuckasegee River. Built for couples, friends, and adult groups who’d rather walk to dinner than drive to it. Park when you arrive and don’t think about the car again until you head for the trails.
Good to know
Up on the hill, the cottage looks out toward town and the mountains. The backyard feels private for an in-town stay, with a deck for morning coffee and quiet evenings. Out front, a fire pit and picnic table are shared with the neighboring caboose. Inside, the original character is intact: hand-hewn log walls, stone floors, and rustic log-frame furniture, all updated with modern comforts. Two king bedrooms (the beds are built from sassafras wood and sit high off the ground), a separate living room with a TV, one full bathroom with an oversized tub and shower, and a full kitchen with stove, oven, fridge, microwave, coffee maker, and enough cookware to actually cook. There’s wifi and a dedicated workspace if you need to check in with work. Walkable: - Downtown shops and restaurants: 5-minute walk - Breweries: 5 to 10-minute walk - Grocery: 8-minute walk - Great Smoky Mountain Railway: 10-minute walk Short drives: - Deep Creek Trailhead: 9 minutes - Great Smoky Mountains National Park trailhead parking: 10 minutes - Downtown Cherokee: 17 minutes - Harrah’s Cherokee Casino: 17 minutes - Nantahala Outdoor Center: 17 minutes - Mingo Falls: 29 minutes The location is the thing. It’s quiet enough to sleep with the windows open and close enough to leave the car parked the whole trip.
Other Details to Note
Other building on the property: A separate caboose shares the property. You have your own backyard, deck, parking, and entrance. The fire pit and picnic table in the front yard are shared. The spaces are otherwise separate, but guests may see each other outdoors. Steps: There are a few interior steps between rooms and down to the backyard, and no handrail. Worth knowing if stairs are a concern. Winter nights: The cottage has central heating throughout. Space heaters are also available as supplemental warmth on the coldest nights if you’d like a little extra. Nearby construction: The local library nearby is being renovated, so you may notice some daytime construction during standard business hours. Parking: Free on-site parking with room for cars, trucks, trailers, and motorcycles. Internet: Wifi is available throughout the cottage. Signal can vary by room. Polar Express season: The cottage books quickly November through December when the railway runs its holiday trains. The departure point is a 10-minute walk from your door.

Accessibility and Availability
Neighborhood
Bryson City is a town of about 1,500 people with more stop signs than stoplights. The Tuckasegee River runs right through downtown, and most of what you’ll want is within a few blocks: two breweries (one with a rooftop deck and mountain views), a chocolate shop, an old-fashioned ice cream parlor, a small aquarium, a fly fishing museum, and a street art mural trail you can walk in an afternoon. The Great Smoky Mountain Railway departs from the downtown depot. During Polar Express season, the departure point is a 10-minute walk from your door. National park trailhead parking is about a 10-minute drive.

Free parking is provided at the cottage. Downtown is less than a 10-minute walk, and you can leave the car parked once you arrive. Restaurants, breweries, shops, and the Great Smoky Mountain Railway station are all within a few blocks on foot. You’ll need your car for the national park, Deep Creek, Cherokee, and Harrah’s. There is no public transit and limited rideshare in the area. AWD or 4WD is recommended whenever snow or ice is in the forecast, as the mountain roads in the Smokies can get slick.
