The Fugitive movie caboose: Walk to Everything!

Bryson City, NC, United States

1 bathroom

This is the actual caboose from the Harrison Ford train wreck in The Fugitive. P&WV #839 rode the rails, starred in a blockbuster, and now you can sleep in it. Downtown Bryson City is less than a 10-minute walk: restaurants, breweries, and the Great Smoky Mountain Railway. Four twin bunks, full bathroom, kitchenette, private deck. Park when you arrive and walk to everything. During holiday season, you're steps from the Polar Express. On a lucky night, you'll hear rain on the metal roof.

Good to know

The caboose has original hardwood floors and authentic railroad details. It's a real piece of history, compact and full of character, not a polished hotel room. Inside you'll find four twin bunks (two lower, two upper accessed by ladder), a full bathroom with shower and immediate hot water, and a kitchenette with mini-fridge, microwave, and coffee maker. There is no stove, oven, or kitchen sink. Climate-controlled year round, so it stays cozy even on cold mountain nights. Outside there's a private deck with seating, a shared fire pit, and a hammock. Nearby: • Downtown shops, restaurants, breweries: 0.2 miles (walkable) • Great Smoky Mountain Railway / Polar Express: 0.5 miles (walkable) • Great Smoky Mountains National Park: 2.7 miles • Nantahala Outdoor Center: 13.3 miles • Harrah's Cherokee Casino: 13 miles The location is the other reason people rebook this place. You're close enough to the railway station to hear the train whistle and see steam from inside the caboose. During Polar Express season (November/December), families walk to the departure point and come back year after year.

Other Details to Note

• Climate Control: Fully climate-controlled with AC and heating year round. • Upper Bunks: The two upper bunks are accessed by ladder and may not be suitable for young children, guests with mobility issues, or anyone uncomfortable with heights. • Kitchenette: Mini-fridge, microwave, and coffee maker only. No stove, oven, or kitchen sink due to space. • What to Expect: This is a genuine historic train car, not a replica or a themed hotel room. The original hardwood flooring shows its age. The space is compact. If you're the kind of traveler who appreciates real history and rustic character over polish, you'll love it. • The local library is being renovated, so you may notice some construction activity during the day. Work is typically limited to standard business hours. • Polar Express Season: The caboose books quickly November through December when the railway runs its holiday trains. Plan ahead if that's what brings you to Bryson City! We'd be happy to have you!

Accessibility and Availability

Neighborhood

Bryson City is a town of about 1,500 people with more stop signs than stoplights. The Tuckasegee River runs right through downtown, and most of what you'll want to do is within a few blocks: breweries, chocolate shops, ice cream parlor, a small aquarium, a fly fishing museum, and a street art mural trail you can walk in an afternoon. The Great Smoky Mountain Railway departs from the downtown depot. Great Smoky Mountains National Park trailhead parking is about a 10-minute drive. It's the kind of place where you leave your car parked and don't think about it again until you head to the trails.

The caboose was very nice to stay in and it was great to be able to park close to the entry. Bryson City is a very nice place and the Caboose is just a short walk to food and drinks.
