The Creaking Log Cabin, 10 min to Cherokee casino
Whittier, NC, United States
It looks like a cabin, but sounds like a haunted house! The Creaking Cabin earned its name honestly: as temperatures shift, the logs pop, settle, and occasionally sound like someone walking. Cathedral ceiling, gas fireplace, king bedroom downstairs, king and queen in an open loft above. Full kitchen, washer and dryer, 2 baths. Ten minutes to Harrah's Cherokee Casino and downtown Bryson City, twenty to the Smokies. Front porch with rocking chairs and a hammock guests don't want to leave.
Good to know
The Creaking Cabin sits 10 minutes from Cherokee in one direction and 10 minutes from Bryson City in the other. Most log cabins in this area make you choose. This one doesn't. Downstairs there's a private king bedroom, a TV, a full bathroom with shower, a full kitchen (stove, oven, fridge, microwave, coffee maker), a washer and dryer, and a living area with a gas fireplace, a TV, and a cathedral ceiling that opens the whole space up. The kitchen is stocked for real cooking, not just reheating. Upstairs is an open loft with a king bed and a queen bed, plus its own bathroom with a bathtub and a large glass-top desk if you need to get a little work done. The front porch is the most-used part of the property. Rocking chairs, wind chimes, a hammock, and a quiet, wooded setting. Mornings are coffee and birdsong; evenings tend to end out there. Nearby Attractions: - Harrah's Cherokee Casino: 10 min - Downtown Cherokee: 11 min - Downtown Bryson City: 10 min - Sequoyah National Golf Club: 7 min - Great Smoky Mountains National Park: 20 min - Oconaluftee Indian Village & Museum of the Cherokee People: 13 min - Mingo Falls: 25 min - Downtown Sylva: 17 min The layout gives you both a private bedroom downstairs with a door that closes and an open loft that keeps everyone connected. The cabin works well as a Polar Express base in winter.
Other Details to Note
Cabin Sounds: The wood walls can creak at night. If this might bother you, please pack some earplugs. Upstairs Bathroom: Tub only, no shower. Downstairs Bathroom: The tub has jets, but they're not in service, so treat it as a standard soaking tub with a shower. A two-step stair helps with the high step in, but it may still not be a good fit for guests with mobility concerns. The Loft: Open to the living room below, so sound and light carry more than they would in an enclosed bedroom. Dishwasher: No dishwasher, so dishes are washed by hand. Outdoor Fires: This is a small residential area where outdoor fires aren't permitted, so there's no fire pit, grill, or outdoor fire setup. Driveway: Gravel. GPS sometimes routes guests to the wrong driveway, so use the directions we send before check-in. Property Layout: A tiny house sits farther up the same driveway. You have the cabin and its parking to yourself, but the driveway continues past you to that unit. Ice Maker: The refrigerator ice maker/water dispenser does not work, so guests who want ice should plan to bring a bag or use the provided ice trays in the freezer.

Accessibility and Availability
Neighborhood
The cabin sits in a quiet residential neighborhood, which puts you close to the attractions without feeling isolated. Cherokee and Bryson City are both about ten minutes out, and that's where guests do most of their eating, shopping, and sightseeing. Cherokee has Harrah's Casino, the Museum of the Cherokee People, Oconaluftee Indian Village, and the southern entrance to Great Smoky Mountains National Park. Bryson City has the Great Smoky Mountains Railroad (including the Polar Express in winter), tubing on the Tuckasegee River, breweries, and a walkable downtown. Sylva and Dillsboro are a short drive further out. Sequoyah National Golf Club is seven minutes away, and the Tuckasegee River is good trout water if you fish. Mornings are birdsong and coffee on the porch. Nights are dark and calm.

Whittier, NC, United States
The cabin is centrally located, which makes it easy to bounce between Cherokee, Bryson City, Sylva, and the national park entrances. The driveway is gravel but flat, with room for several cars. Regular vehicles are fine, though the short paved road leading to the driveway may not be ideal for very low clearance vehicles. 4WD or AWD is recommended whenever snow or ice is in the forecast, since the mountain roads can get slick. Rideshare is available in the area, though coverage isn't always reliable.
